Spring Hill Chargers

06/11/2014 - After loss, Chargers have busy week

Richmond-The Spring Hill Chargers won’t have too much time to think about their 4-1 loss to Richmond Sunday, June 8.

They’ve got too many other games coming up. “We’ve got four games in eight days,” said co-manager Randy Schoenberg. “We played today and we have Farming on Wednesday night at Elrosa. Friday we face Elrosa at Elrosa and Sunday we host Greenwald.”

That string of games will test how good the Chargers are. The loss to Richmond was the first of the year for Spring Hill. Prior to that, consistent pitching, a great defense and some extraordinary hitting has helped the team to a 5-0 record. “In league we are hitting .374 but you know it can’t stay there,” said Schoenberg. “Give him (Richmond pitcher Ben Schroeder) credit. He just picked apart the corners and pitched good.” Spring Hill had just four hits in the game. Singles by Jamie Terres, Shawn Schoenberg and Chris Spanier, and a double by Grant Schoenberg accounted for their hits. Spanier scored in the second inning to tie the game. He was moved to second on a sacrifice by Eric Terres and scored when Shawn Schoenberg reached on an infield error.

Richmond used a threerun sixth inning to score the go-ahead runs. Cole Schmitz’ two-run home run highlighted that inning. The Royal also bene fited from a bases loaded walk.

Except for that inning the Chargers had effectively eliminated base runners. Twice catcher Nathan Terres threw out potential base stealers.
