Cody Eichers survived a rough first inning to pitch a complete game as Spring Hill won 6-3 over Farming this evening.

 

Farming opened the game hitting hard with leadoff double by Aaron Eiynck and a RBI single by Kazz Ehlinger.  Greg Holthaus also had an RBI single that inning.  An outstanding catch by Louie Opatz in left field prevented more runs from being scored. After that inning, while he allowed another eight hits, Eichers settled down and allowed only one more run.  Erik Schmitt's seventh inning single scored Cody Fourre with Farming's final run. The Chargers had men on base in every inning, but only scored in four of them.

 

A bases-loaded walk to Grant Schoenberg in the third forced in Shawn Schoenberg, who had reached on an error. In the fourth inning Eric Terres was driven in on a double by Jamie Terres. Spring Hill finished the game with four doubles as Eichers, Grant Schoenberg and Opatz also hit two-baggers. Opatz was the most productive of those four. His double came in the seventh inning. Spring Hill had taken a 3-2 lead that inning after Nathan Terres and Grant Schoenberg executed a double steal. Kyle Bertram sent Schoenberg to third with a single and Opatz followed with a double.

 

The Chargers then led 5-2 and never trailed again. Nathan Terres drove in the final run of the game with a sacrifice fly scoring Shawn Schoenberg, who had singled and scored. Spring Hill stranded 11 and Farming stranded nine. Good defensive plays by infielders on hard hit ground balls, as well as unique double plays, prevented more runs from scoring. In the fourth inning Farming had runners at first and second. Hard ground ball hits to third baseman Eric Schoenberg was cleanly field and he tagged third for a force out. His throw to first went wide, allowed the batter to reach first. First baseman Tyler Revermann recovered the ball in time to throw catcher Nathan Terres to put out the runner trying to score. In the seventh inning, Spring Hill had runners at second on third. a ground ball back to pitcher Fourrer, resulted in an easy put out at first. As the runner from third tried to score first baseman Chris Wehseler throw to catcher Chad Mergen for a putout to end the inning.
