Spring Hill Chargers

04/22/2015 - Spring Hill posts powerful offense

Simply put, Spring Hill was an offensive juggernaut last year.

For most of the season, in game after game, the team kept finding ways to pound the ball, score runs, and generally come out on top.  The out-scored opponents 167-78 as they finished with a 21-5 record and finished the year at the state tournament.  The team not only regularly put men on base, but they had power and hit 14 homes runs as a team.

Some of that home run power will be gone as Cody Eichers, who hit five home runs and 23 RBI, has left the team.  Spring Hill still has a potent offense.  Eric Terres had 41 hits with the team and Shawn Schoenberg 35.  Jamie Terres came through with 33 hits, 11 of them doubles.  Altogether, Spring Hill had 6 players with at least 20 hits.

Those hits produced run for the team and runs led to wins.  Protecting the leads for Spring Hill is a deep, varied and balanced pitching staff.  While Jordan Welle’s 38.2 innings led the team, he was not the only one doing a lot pitching.  Corey Schoenberg had 37 innings and Chris Spanier finished with 30.  Two others had over 20 innings.  The staff was also effective and finished with a 2.48 ERA.

Defensively, the team has meshed into a solid unit that not only has talent at each position, but their players know how to play their position.

For the past few years, the Chargers have been among the top teams in the SCL.  There is no reason to think they will not be there this year.
