It rained and it rained runs this afternoon at Spring Hill, where the Chargers and Lakers exchanged leads and pitchers regularly.

Played in steady rain for six innings. The tone was set in the first inning when the Lakers scored one run.  Shane Kampsen had the first of several extra base hits in the game. Also in that inning Spring Hill walked two batters. The first of 15 walks the Chargers would issue.

Spring Hill took their first lead in the bottom of the first with on Austin Schoenberg’s home run.  The Chargers has three home runs in the game. Eric Schoenberg and Shawn Schoenberg also homered. The Lakers tied the score using singles from Jason Kampsen and Ryan Wuertz, and two more walks. Jason Kampsen was hit by the pitch with bases loaded and Wuertz hit a sacrifice fly. Those runs came off of reliever Brent Terres. Austin Schoenberg had started for Spring Hill.

That lead last until Shawn Schoenberg’s three-run homer. Eric Schoenberg hit a two-run homer to give Spring Hill a 9-5 fifth inning lead. The Chargers quickly found that lead was not enough. Their pitchers issued five walks in the fifth inning and one hit batter. Tim Hopfer, former Greenwald Cub, who came to the mound in the fourth inning, singled to drive in two runs and give the Lakers an 11-2 lead.

Hopfer, however, couldn’t hold that lead. Spring Hill had another five run inning, highlighted by a double Spring Hill’s third pitcher Josh Olmscheid. Austin Schoenberg had an RBI single and Nathan Terres a sacrifice fly as the Chargers took a 14-11 lead. It was the last lead exchange of the game.
