Spring Hill Chargers

The Chargers won a back-and-forth game this afternoon defeating St. Martin 7-6. The result puts Spring Hill in first place in the SCL-North. It also guarantees that Farming will be the SCL-South champions. Spring Hill plays Farming tomorrow. Spring Hill used small ball tactics to take a 2-0 lead by the fourth inning. In the third inning Kyle Bertram reached on an error that placed him at third base. Eric Terres’ sacrifice fly scored him. In the fourth inning Jamie Terres walked went to third on Shawn Schoenberg’s double and scored on Nathan Terres’ squeeze bunt.  St. Martin, got the game interesting with power shots. Kyle Lieser, who had four hits in the game, hit a bases-loaded double scoring Jared Overman, Austin Arceneau and Matthew Schlangen.  That lead lasted until the bottom of the fifth when Schoenberg hit a three-run home run. St. Martin replied with a solo shot by Arceneau in the sixth inning.  Eric Terres’ RBI single game that run back in the bottom of the sixth inning. In top of the seventh Taylor Holthaus tied the game with a two-run home run.  Jamie Terres pushed across Eric Terres with the game-winning run with a two-out double in the eight inning. Neither starter figured in the decision. Schoenberg pitched two innings to earn win. Backed by a ninth inning double play, he faced only seven batters in those innings. Bryan Schlangen was charged with the loss.
