Spring Hill Chargers

08/08/2011 - Rounding the Bases and the Racetrack

The Chargers are coming off a successful first weekend of the Region 15C Tournament, and a brief stint on the Big Kahuna Go-kart Circuit. Rubbing is racing and the “Highway 4 500” which brought a combination of Lake Henry and Spring Hill players to the track, was just that.  It ended with the obvious disqualification of a few smooth talking curly haired Lakers.  Their disregard for safety and speeding through the pit area gave them the black flag (as can be seen on this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rgz7H8ln-Qk).  As for the rest of the racers, the only casualty was a Charger hat which received a little road rash, and a player receiving a minor concussion.  The need for speed has many players thinking about joining the NASCAR circuit, driver Brad Terres already has sponsors from Terres Trucking “We always have a full Load”, C.S. Daycare Service “Keeping kids Happy one at a time”, Ryan Spanier Handyman Service “Servicing anything or anyone”, Stony Creek Dairy “We can milk anything”, and a verbal commitment from Horseshoe Bar “I don’t tink I can afford dat.”

As for the baseball action, the Chargers battled for the rights to the color maroon on Saturday.  They took on the Norway Lake-Sunburg Lakers and made quick work of them amounting to 16 runs on 17 hits in 7 innings. The Chargers beat the Lakers 16 to 3.  Taking the Lakers pitchers deep on the day were Chris Spanier and Jamie Terres, extra base hits helped rally the Chargers past the Lakers where there were a total of 8 doubles.

Sunday the Chargers again found themselves battling for the traveling keg against Elrosa.  The Saints dusted off the cobwebs from the dungeon where they store it, and put it on display from all of Region 15C.  Regal was naturally jealous of the stunning beauty and clever thought of the trophy.  It made them reminisce of a time they had something to call their own in Cornstock.  It is believed there is a traveling trophy the Eagles own in a Corncob to represent their league.  It is currently stored somewhere the sun doesn’t shine with one of the Eagles.  The Chargers took it to the Saints 7-4 in an excellent baseball game once again.  Draftee Jim Thull squared off against [Eric Shoenberg], with Schoenberg earning a win and Region 15C Realtor of the year Matt Imdieke coming in to slam the door, but yet give you the keys to your dream home.  The Charger had another good day at the dish driving in 7 runs on 12 hits with 3 of those being extra base hits.

Other news around Region 15C was the disappointment of the Farming Flames who were as successful on the field as their fans were at starting “the wave.”  2 Jeers are awarded to the Regal players who finally jumped off their bandwagon for a blaze orange t-shirt.   Another disappointment of the weekend and earning 3 Jeers, was the 3 drink rule which made it difficult for the team to become platinum members, but were still able to keep the family tradition alive of the rally, at least he washed his hands.  1 Cheer goes to the Elrosa Saints for their “We didn’t come here to pray” motto.  2 Cheers go out to Charger Nation for getting Keg in the Closet played after the game Sunday.

The Chargers will take on the Lakers of Lake Henry with a state tournament berth on the line Saturday in Spicer.  The Chargers plan to take the domination from The Kahuna onto the baseball diamond, “Only if they want to.”
