Spring Hill Chargers

08/07/2010 - Chargers win in Region 15C

The Spring Hill Chargers assured themselves of at least three Region 15C games when they defeated Norway Lake-Sunburg 8-4 Saturday, Aug. 7 in the first game of the Region 15C Tournament at Greenwald.

Shawn Schoenberg set the pace offensively and on the mound for the Spring Hill Chargers. Offensively he was 2-4 with a home run, double, two runs and a stolen base. His fourth inning double scored Jamie Terres with the first run of the game. His sixth inning home run rebuilt a four-run lead for the Chargers. His walk and run in the sixth, gave an insurance run to the team.

The Chargers had taken a 4-0 lead when Eric Schoenberg hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning.

The Lakers did not make it easy for the Chargers. Throughout the game NLS kept finding ways to reach base and add to their run total. A home run by Scott Rambow, and an RBI double by Jamie Cortez, showed they had the ability to score. They also threatened to score a few more times in the game.

Shawn Schoenberg kept finding ways to pitch out of trouble as his team gave him offensive support. He retired the side in order in the ninth inning and brought Spring Hill a win.

St. Martin-13

Spring Hill-3

St. Martin's bats sounded loud and strong from the very first inning. Kyle Lieser opened the game with a double. After Luke Rothstein's RBI single, Nate Schlangen homered to give St. Martin a 3-0 lead with no one out.

The Martins have made a few adjustments to their line-up since the start of the year. Nate Schlangen, who was the lead off batter, now bats in the number three spot.

"We have to protect Nate (Schlangen) and Sam (Rothstein)," said Lieser. Nathan is now getting good pitches because they don't want to face Sam."

Schlangen finished the game 4-5 with two doubles, four RBI and a home run.

He was not the only one hitting for the Martins as they spread their 12 hits among eight players. Ken Arceneau put the game into St. Martin's favor with a bases-load triple in the fourth inning that gave the Martins a 10-0 lead.

Spring Hill did not go quietly in the game. It twice staged rallies to cut into the Martins' lead. Cody Eichers had a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. In the fifth the Chargers had a chance to change the momentum of the game. With two out, Eric Schoenberg walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. A single by Jamie Terres and double by Shawn Schoenberg scored Eric Schoenberg, but Terres was thrown out at the plate to end the inning.

Except for those inn-ings, St. Martin starter Jake Harrison was rarely in trouble. He pitched through the sixth inning. Brent Heinen, drafted from Roscoe, pitched in the inning for the Martins. Aaron Welle was charged with the loss.
