Spring Hill Chargers

05/09/2010 - Chargers edge Silverstreaks, 3-1

Spring Hill trotted a much different lineup out on to the field this past Sunday, but once again the result was the same: another victory.  It's no secret that pitching has been the key so far this season, as the team has yielded just one earned run in twenty seven regular season innings.  Some timely hitting also played a key role in the victory on Sunday.   Shawn Schoenberg's two run homer in the fifth put the Chargers up and Dave Stalboerger's RBI triple in the 7th put up a huge insurance run for starter Aaron Welle.  It was Shawn's fourth home run in just three league games.  Never underestimate the power of a man in love.  Dave must've been feeling the love as well; he stroked two key extra base hits to lift the team.  Dave is proof that years of being in love is good for long term baseball success.  Plus, now he gets to drive a sweet mini-van.

Aaron Welle took the hill for the Chargers, allowing just one run and striking out eleven.  New Munich managed a few rallies as they drew six walks during the game, but some timely strikeouts got Welle out of some shaky innings.  Welle ended up going the distance and locking down the team's 4th straight win.

The offense enjoyed a solid day as well.  Besides Shawn's 5th inning blast, Nate and Jamie Terres both chipped in with two hits apiece.   Dave was 2-4 at the plate as well.  It was an admirable performance for a team shaking off the after effects of another Charger wedding.  The man of the hour wasn't able to make the game, as he took off early for a honeymoon in sunny Florida.  This forced Ralph and GB to make some strategic lineup adjustments.  It paid off with Corey moving to third, Dave to second, Eighter to right, and Shawn back out to left.  The defense never missed a beat, even with the last minute changes.  It speaks volumes of the team's integrity and focus, which is hard to believe considering it was nowhere to be found the night before.

The battle for the keg will be in primetime under the lights Friday as the Chargers take their four game win streak to Elrosa.  All the juicy subplots that make this rivalry so great will be in full swing once again.  Stay tuned.
