Elrosa - The Spring Hill Chargers kept the keg one more game winning 3-2 in one of the best pitching duels of the Stearns County League season Friday, June 8. The Chargers had 10 hits off of Ethan Vogt, but except for the third inning, did not make them count for runs. That inning Eric Schoenberg, Jamie Terres, Shawn Schoenberg and Nathan Terres had consecutive one-out singles to drive in three runs. “It is always a battle with us,” said Nate Terres, who had two hits in the game. “Ethan is a good pitcher. You’re lucky to get three (runs) off him and then you have to hold Elrosa to two.” Spring Hill held the Saints to two runs, mainly because of the pitching of Louie Opatz and Shawn Schoenberg, “I was able to throw my off speed pitches, which was cool,” said Opatz. “That was the best I was able to throw my change up and curveball all year.” He was effective allowing only two hits in his seven innings. The Saints scored in the first after walks to Dustin Breitbach and Matt Middendorf. A passed ball moved them up one base before Illies grounded out and scored Breitbach. In the sixth inning Breitbach walked and eventually scored on a single by Illies. “Walks have been a problem all year,” said Opatz, “They were again tonight, but it was nice to have Shawn come in and back me up.” Schoenberg faced seven batters in his two innings of relief and struck out three of them. Illies, Middendorf and Breitbach hit for Elrosa. Also hitting for Spring Hill were: Corey Schoenberg, Opatz and Cody Eichers.
